Security Awareness

Security awareness is the knowledge and attitude personnel possess regarding the protection of the physical, and especially informational, assets of the Department of Commerce. The Department offers formal security awareness training and resources for all personnel when onboarding and annually.

Security Awareness Training 

The DOC General Security Awareness course is accessible via the Commerce Learning Center site and is available to all DOC users. You can locate the course by searching the site using the search feature in the upper right corner of the main CLC landing page, or by clicking here (Commerce Personnel Only).

This presentation provides an overview of the best practices for enhancing personal safety and security in a variety of settings.

Participants will learn tips for reducing risk in day-to-day activities and specific occurrences such as:

  • Walking on the sidewalk
  • Using public transportation
  • Traveling by vehicle
  • Attending mass gatherings

The importance of maintaining situational awareness and reporting suspicious activity is also detailed.


Security Awareness Day

Security Awareness Day is a planned annual event that occurs at the Bureau or facility level. The day is planned with several security awareness training sessions, vendor booths to meet security and first responders and obtain program information on security and personal safety, and breakout sessions specific on security and emergency management processes with subject matter experts.
