Per Department Organization Order 20-6, OSY is responsible for security education, awareness, and training. This responsibility includes developing professional standards and comprehensive security education and awareness program activities to enhance employee knowledge of security requirements. This activity includes personal protection, threat intelligence, the proper management of classified and sensitive information, and the means of countering threats to Department facilities and personnel.

OSY has developed the 0080 Security Administration/Specialist Training Framework, which provides an early-career, to mid-career, to senior-career security specialist development roadmap to build the necessary competencies to achieve this goal. Competencies are organized by technical, general, and leadership for each of the levels.
