Electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF) Information

The Department of Commerce is implementing an E-Government initiative that provides easier and faster access to your Official Personnel Folder (OPF). Developed for all Federal agencies by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the system is called Electronic Official Personnel Folder (eOPF).

The eOPF allows employees to access their individual file through a secure Internet connection. To help ensure optimal protection of your eOPF data, users must access the system with a PC that has a registered DOC IP address or via a registered DOC Virtual Private Network tunnel (VPN).

OHRM is working toward converting each employee's OPF from a paper file to an electronic file or electronic OPF (eOPF) in two stages:

  • The first stage began in January 2006 when our payroll service provider, the National Finance Center (NFC), began sending SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action, transactions to the eOPF system for employees;
  • The second stage is the scanning into eOPF of all the documents in your paper OPF. This stage began in December 2007. When scanning is complete, employees will be able to see their entire eOPF online.

Some of the benefits of eOPF include:

  • You can monitor your own records for accuracy;
  • You can print documents that you need;
  • Access to your eOPF is limited to authorized personnel, (i.e., you and OHRM, resulting in continued security and protection of your privacy); and
  • Your eOPF is more secure than a paper file.

We hope you have a good experience with the eOPF system and welcome your feedback.
