Strategic Workforce Planning

  • image of a puzzle

The Department of Commerce (DOC) is committed to fostering a high-performing, adaptable, and mission-ready workforce to support the nation's economic growth, innovation, and global competitiveness. As the demands on our programs and services evolve, strategic workforce planning becomes essential to ensure we have the right people, with the right skills, in the right positions—now and in the future.

Workforce Planning Strategy provides a framework for identifying critical skill gaps, forecasting future workforce needs, and aligning human capital efforts with the Department’s strategic objectives. By leveraging data-driven insights and proactive planning, we can effectively respond to emerging priorities, support employee development, and enhance organizational resilience.

Through this effort, the Department reaffirms its commitment to building an inclusive, and forward-thinking workforce capable of meeting today’s challenges and tomorrow’s opportunities.

Workforce planning occurs at multiple organizational levels. Workforce planning tools and resources are designed to be flexible and can be adapted for use at different organization levels.
