The Executive Leadership Development Program (ELDP) includes a major mentoring component. Mentors are role models in terms of values, ethics, and executive/management practices required of DOC leadership. As such, the ELDP mentoring program will include an assigned mentor for each ELDP participant. In addition, each ELDP participant will be expected to gain experience mentoring by serving as a mentor to a Commerce employee at or below the GS-12 (or equivalent) level. 

Most of the mentees who will be assigned to ELDP participants will be individuals selected to participate in the Aspiring Leaders Development Program (ALDP). 

All mentors will assist in the development of individuals’ development plans, help identify specific assignments, advise on the completion of program requirements, and, provide constructive feedback on overall progress. 

A major segment of the ELDP orientation process is the on-site mentor/mentee training. The purpose of the training is to provide both mentors and mentees with training in their respective roles and responsibilities in the mentoring process as well as to identify practices to enhance the mentoring relationship. Mentors will be provided with mentoring skills training. Through this role modeling, participants will develop mentoring skills that will help them motivate the direct reports who may work with them in the future.
