Early Release Labor Day

In recognition of the Labor Day Federal holiday on Monday, September 7, 2020, Department of Commerce employees have been granted an early dismissal on Friday, September 4, 2020.  With the exception of emergency employees, all Department of Commerce employees in a duty status (including employees on telework) on Friday, September 4, 2020, will be excused from duty 2 hours prior to their normal departure time.  For example, employees regularly scheduled to work from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will be excused from duty at 2:30 p.m.

The early dismissal does not apply to employees in the following status: (1) on leave without pay; (2) in receipt of workers’ compensation payments; (3) on military leave; (4) on suspension;  (5) in a non-pay status on the last hour of the scheduled workday immediately before and the first hour of the next scheduled workday immediately after the early dismissal; or (6) whose work has a direct impact on the health and safety of the public.

Also, since employees must be present in a duty status at the time of the early dismissal to benefit from the early dismissal, employees on previously approved leave (e.g., annual leave, sick leave, compensatory time, credit hours, etc.), or employees not scheduled to work due to a flexible or compressed work schedule, will remain in their current status and may not benefit from administrative leave provided through the early dismissal.

Employees are to record the early dismissal with “Administrative Leave” on their WebTA timecards.
