Use of Department Seal

For the creation of all Department symbols and/or the use of such symbols by outside parties, please see DAO 201-1 for all policies and procedures (Symbols of the Department of Commerce).

For detailed information specific to the use of Seals, Emblems, and Office of Secretary (OS) Logos (not Bureau logos), please submit the CD-506 form to the OFEQ Multimedia Branch ([email protected]) for review and approval. Below is a list of what the Multimedia Branch requires when reviewing CD-506 requests:

Request for the Creation of a New Seal, Emblem, or OS Logo

  • A completed CD-506 form (second page only).
  • An Encapsulated Postscript File (EPS) of the symbol for the Multimedia Branch to conduct the technical review.

Request for use of the Department of Commerce Seal by an Outside Party

  • A completed CD-506 form (first page only).
  • A graphical mock-up of how the outside party intends to use the Commerce Seal.
  • A signed License Agreement.  For a template License Agreement permitting an outside party to use the Department of Commerce Seal or for a template License Agreement permitting an outside party to use an OS Logo, click here.
  • If there is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the outside party and the Department of Commerce, please attach a copy of the MOU to the CD-506.  (Note: If the MOU has been (1) cleared by the Office of the Deputy General Counsel for Administration/General Law Division and (2) incorporates license terms into the MOU, a separate License Agreement may not be required.  Please contact the General Law Division at [email protected] with questions about this.)
