I was honored to work with my former colleagues at the Department of Commerce Office of the Chief Economist on the report that Secretary Penny Pritzker released today, “The Benefits and Costs of Apprenticeships: A Business Perspective.” Our report is based on data from 13 leading businesses and intermediaries, including a hospital, a pharmacy chain, and an advanced manufacturer.

Earlier today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced 35 organizations from 19 states that will receive nearly $15 million to create and expand cluster-focused proof-of-concept and commercialization programs and early-stage seed capital funds.

Over the past weeks, there have been numerous positive reports by the American media again on the German dual vocational education and training system, about which I am very proud. I was also particularly intrigued to learn about new apprenticeship models being created in the U.S. They show that the dual system is attractive to a growing number of people.
