Remarks by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo at the Celebrating America Reception at World Expo in Dubai

AS PREPARED FOR DELIVERY

Thank you, Bob. You’ve done a wonderful job here at Expo 2020 Dubai representing the United States.

And thanks to your team and the US Mission to the UAE for your hard work. Your combined efforts have resulted in a remarkable achievement.

I also want to acknowledge our industry partners - the U.S.-UAE Business Council and the American Chambers of Commerce in Abu Dhabi and Dubai - for their support of the USA Pavilion.

And I want to recognize and thank the American companies who are official sponsors and partners of the pavilion. Thanks to your efforts, we have showcased our great nation to nearly one million visitors, boosted our business interests through 150 business advocacy events, and engaged countless foreign delegations.

This Expo and the USA Pavilion are as much about our vision for collaboration as they are about our vision for common prosperity. The USA Pavilion showcases American innovators and visionaries, and the extraordinary diversity of our nation. By tapping into that talent and diversity, we will continue to prosper and thrive.

I will return to Washington tomorrow and report back to President Biden on your remarkable accomplishments here.

I am especially excited by the feedback I’m hearing from the American business community. Companies from a range of industries have leveraged the USA Pavilion and Expo to build new partnerships and increase U.S. exports to the region.

Immediately after this, I’m heading across town to our flagship Trade Winds event to greet over one hundred American businesses, who were here at Expo yesterday, as they forge new trade ties with the UAE and in the region.

Both of these engagements will translate into economic growth and U.S. jobs.

Our states also have seized the opportunity. Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas, and Virginia have sent trade delegations to the Expo, and Senator Blunt from Missouri is here— promoting investment opportunities, building partnerships here in the region, encouraging students to study in our world-renowned universities, and marketing unique tourist destinations.

I would also like to acknowledge our incredible hosts, our Emirati partners. Fifty years ago, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum gathered with the founding rulers of each of these United Arab Emirates with a vision of a partnership to create a better life for their children, and to build a place of prosperity for all.

Expo 2020 Dubai is a testament to the vision of those founding fathers. The United States is proud to be your partner.

We do business together, and we build opportunities together. We share a commitment to meeting the challenges of the day, to innovating solutions that find better ways to power our homes, put food on our tables, and live full and healthy lives.

Behind me is a full-size model of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which will carry the UAE’s lunar rover Rashid to the surface of the moon this year. It’s an extraordinary example of how our nations are collaborating in pursuit of the future.

So, thank you, and please raise your glass in celebrating the United States’ National Day at Expo 2020. To Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of the Future.
