Today, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves met with Minister for Trade of the Republic of Korea Cheong In-kyo. Deputy Secretary Graves congratulated Minister Cheong on his recent appointment as Minister of Trade. The meeting highlighted planning efforts to convene the first U.S.-Japan-Korea Trilateral Commerce and Industry Ministerial Meeting. They also discussed bilateral efforts to advance U.S.-ROK commercial ties, particularly in critical and emerging technologies, through the U.S.- Korea Supply Chain and Commercial Dialogue. The Deputy Secretary thanked Minister Cheong and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for their strong partnership and coordination on export controls, promoting our shared national and economic security. The meeting concluded with the Deputy Secretary and the Minister acknowledging their shared priority in making significant progress in Pillars II-IV of Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Prosperity (IPEF) by continuing to deliver tangible benefits for the economies of IPEF partners through collective efforts under the Framework.
