Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo Applauds Senate Passage of CHIPS Legislation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Today, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo released the following statement following the Senate’s bipartisan passage of legislation to revitalize domestic semiconductor manufacturing and invest in American scientific leadership.

“Today’s Senate vote was a significant step toward securing America’s scientific leadership and revitalizing America’s ability to make the chips that keep our cars on the road and fighter jets in the air. Our country runs on semiconductors and creating a robust chip manufacturing ecosystem in the U.S. will keep our economy strong, our nation safe, and create high-quality, good-paying jobs in communities across the country. The Senate’s bipartisan vote for this legislation sends a strong signal to American workers, American industry and countries around the world that we’re committed to leading in the 21st Century. I’m grateful to Leader Schumer, Minority Leader McConnell and the bipartisan group of Senators who stayed at the negotiating table for this bill. Today, Republican and Democratic senators voted to put our nation’s security above partisan politics. I look forward to a similarly bipartisan vote in the House of Representatives to do the same.”
