WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: Boeing, Qatar Reach Landmark Deal on Freighters

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Following Qatar Airways and Boeing’s announcement of the largest deal for freighter aircraft in Boeing’s history, lawmakers, labor unions, and business groups applauded the announcement as just the most recent win in the Biden administration’s work to revitalize American manufacturing.

This deal builds upon recent announcements made by General Motors (GM), Samsung, Intel, and others who have committed to manufacturing their products– from electric vehicles to the semiconductor chips that power them– right here in the United States. By helping to bring American manufacturing back to our shores, the Biden-Harris Administration is ensuring that American workers are able to secure good-paying jobs here at home, while maintaining our country's competitive edge on the world stage.

Here’s what leaders from across the country are saying about this continued investment in American manufacturing:

International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers: “The IAM represents tens of thousands of members in the aerospace industry who welcome this long-term investment. Today’s announcement gives hope to so many communities that will benefit from the good union jobs this investment will create.”

International Federation of Professional & Technical Engineers: “As a union representing aerospace professionals at Boeing, Spirit AeroSystems, Triumph Group, GE and at NASA, this announcement is a win for IFPTE members, for union members throughout the U.S. aircraft manufacturing supply chain, for American manufacturing and R&D, and for 777X freighter launch customer Qatar Airways. This achievement advances President Biden’s clear commitment to creating good union jobs and encouraging American manufacturing.”

Sen. Sherrod Brown: “The world is beginning to see what we’ve always known – that Ohio workers are the best at what they do, and that the future of advanced manufacturing is in our state. GE Aviation has been driving that innovation and growth for years, building on Ohio’s rich aviation heritage. They’re such an asset to Ohio, and this deal is a huge win for the Ohio workers who are part of GE.”

Rep. Tim Ryan: “Another major win for Ohio today. This deal is going to put hundreds of good-paying union jobs in the hands of Ohioans while helping the economy of our future take flight. This is what happens when we fight like hell to put working people first.”

Rep. Rick Larsen: “Today’s announcement means more well-paying jobs in Everett & economic growth for local communities. NW WA is home to the world’s best aviation & aerospace workforce, & I will continue to work with leaders and stakeholders to ensure the PNW remains the aerospace capital of the world.”

Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber: “Great news for GE Aviation and our regional economy! The Biden Administration has prioritized the revitalization of our manufacturing economy. This investment means good jobs right here in America, billions of dollars more in exports, and a much-needed boost to America’s manufacturing sector. This announcement also builds on recent investments in American workers and manufacturing by General Motors and Intel.”
