U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo To Visit Tallinn, Participate in Tallinn Digital Summit

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

United States Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo will be in Tallinn September 6 and 7, where she will participate in the Tallinn Digital Summit and hold bilateral meetings. Secretary Raimondo is the first senior official from the Biden Administration to visit Estonia and the first Cabinet-level official to visit since 2019.

During her trip to Estonia, Secretary Raimondo will meet with a number of Government of Estonia officials, including Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets, and Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology Andres Sutt. Secretary Raimondo’s visit will emphasize the strong partnership between the U.S. and Estonia, especially on issues related to digital development and our shared efforts to support global economic growth, especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.

On September 7 at 9:30am, Secretary Raimondo will give a keynote address at the Tallinn Digital Summit. The Secretary’s remarks will focus on the need to develop a global economy that emphasizes digital infrastructure and connectivity based on shared values. Secretary Raimondo will also highlight the role that initiatives such as the Build Back Better World Partnership can play in closing the infrastructure and connectivity gap, and how the global community must come together to bridge differences and implement mutually beneficial solutions.

During the Tallinn Digital Summit, Secretary Raimondo will also participate in a panel discussion at 11:10am, along with representatives from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the European Commission. Both the panel discussion and the Secretary’s remarks will be live-streamed via the Tallinn Digital Summit. Gina M. Raimondo serves as the 40th U.S. Secretary of Commerce and was sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris on March 3, 2021. As Secretary of Commerce, she is focused on a simple but vital mission — to spur good-paying jobs, empower entrepreneurs to innovate and grow, and help American workers and businesses compete. Secretary Raimondo was formerly the 75th Governor of Rhode Island and its first woman governor.
