Deputy Secretary Graves Underscores Importance of Public, Private Sectors in Combating Climate Change During Trip to Poland

Between September 20-24, Deputy Secretary Don Graves joined Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm for the re-launch of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TECC) Ministerial and Business Forum, an international platform that provides policymakers and civil society stakeholders across 22 European countries with resources and tools to build secure, resilient, climate-conscious energy systems. Secretary Graves provided opening remarks for the forum and participated in panel discussions on financing, the low carbon transition, and smart cities and energy technology. The P-TECC took place in Warsaw, Poland.

Throughout his participation in P-TECC, Deputy Secretary Graves underscored the important role that both the public and private sectors play in combating climate change. He used the trip as an opportunity to engage with Polish and European government leaders and highlight U.S. commercial opportunities in the energy sector that support domestic clean energy jobs. He also held several meetings to hear from U.S. and European business leaders about overcoming challenges and identifying new opportunities for advancing clean energy and climate goals in the region. Throughout the trip, he emphasized the critical role businesses will play in delivering a clean energy future, and how governments for their part must ensure the rule of law, fair and open markets, and strong attention to cybersecurity.

“On both sides of the Atlantic, and indeed around the world, the private sector plays an important role in driving the clean energy and sustainable development solutions we need to combat climate change. The Commerce Department is proud to support Central and Eastern Europe’s clean energy transition, and to promote the tools and services that the U.S. business sector offers and the many jobs it supports.” Deputy Secretary Graves said. “It was a great honor to join Secretary Granholm this week in Warsaw at the P-TECC Forum and express support for our collective climate goals.”
