Information Law (InfoLaw)

The Information Law Division provides legal advice and services to the Department and its components pertaining to open government, privacy, records management, non-disclosure agreements, information collections, Controlled Unclassified Information, and other information-related matters. These areas are governed by various legal authorities, including the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Federal Advisory Committee Act, the Privacy Act, the Federal Records Act, the Trade Secrets Act, and the Paperwork Reduction Act. The Information Law Division is also responsible for processing the Department’s FOIA appeals for final agency decision by the Assistant General Counsel for Employment, Litigation, and Information; and may assist the General Litigation Division and the Department of Justice in FOIA litigation or other litigation pertaining to Information Law’s areas of expertise.
