Uzoma Onyeije serves as the Acting Chief Counsel at the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet). As the agency’s first hire, Uzoma played a pivotal role in transforming the U.S. Department of Commerce’s vision for FirstNet into reality—building the nation’s first and only broadband network dedicated to public safety, now serving millions of first responders nationwide.

Uzoma’s legal career began in private practice in Washington, D.C., where he advised clients ranging from Fortune 500 telecom and technology companies to disruptive startups on complex regulatory, governance, and transactional matters. He also served as a Legal Advisor in the FCC’s Wireless Bureau, where he helped shape national wireless policy, before becoming General Counsel for a venture capital-backed Silicon Valley startup focused on broadband innovation. 

Uzoma earned his J.D. with honors from Howard University School of Law and holds a B.S. in Accounting from Oakwood University.
