Dr. Michael G. Long is an associate professor of religious studies and peace and conflict studies at Elizabethtown College, PA, and is the author or editor of several books on civil rights, religion, and politics, including Gay Is Good: The Life and Letters of Gay Rights Pioneer Franklin Kameny.  Frank Kameny was the first gay employee to fight back after being fired from federal service in 1958 during the “Lavender Scare,” a period when LGBTQ+ people were considered a threat to national security.    

Long’s work has been featured or reviewed in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, USA Today, CNN, Book Forum, Ebony/Jet, and other newspapers and journals. Long blogs for the Huffington Post, and he has appeared on C-Span and NPR.  He holds a Ph.D. from Emory University and resides in New Cumberland, PA. 

This event is open to all NOAA employees and affiliates.  All employees should obtain supervisory approval prior to attending.  Interpreter will be provided.
