Secretary Raimondo Addresses Advisory Committee on U.S. Supply Chain and Competitiveness

Earlier this week, Secretary Gina Raimondo addressed the virtual meeting of the Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness (ACSCC), the Secretary’s advisory body that provides recommendations to support U.S. supply chain and economic competitiveness.

“The last two years of supply chain crises have revealed that the U.S. government needs to invest more in supply chain resilience,” Secretary Raimondo said to ACSCC members. “Your experience, energy, and leadership are helping us formulate and implement solutions to make our supply chains more resilient, diverse, and secure.”

During the discussion, Secretary Raimondo asked committee members for their recommendations on key supply chain priorities, including how to effectively promote supply chain resiliency with partners and allies in the Indo-Pacific region through the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). A proposed Supply Chain Agreement was announced at the IPEF Ministerial meeting in May and provides an important opportunity to help build supply chain resilience and competitiveness. The Secretary asked for the Committee’s recommendations on how to make IPEF as successful as possible for the U.S. private sector. Secretary Raimondo also asked Committee members to consider how the U.S. Government can support companies’ efforts to enhance supply chain resilience across a range of sectors in which India and other IPEF partners could serve as a potential partner.

Another key priority raised by Secretary Raimondo is the work of Commerce’s Supply Chain Center, which is housed in the Department's Industry and Analysis business unit. A first-of-its-kind, the Center works to strengthen supply chain resilience by serving as an analytic engine that helps drive U.S. Government decision-making and supports partnerships with the private sector. The Center leverages quantitative data and advanced analytics to help make the Government’s supply chain work more proactive.

The ACSCC was formed to advise the Secretary of Commerce on the necessary elements of a comprehensive policy approach to supply chain competitiveness designed to support U.S. export growth and national economic competitiveness, encourage innovation, facilitate the movement of goods, and improve the competitiveness of U.S. supply chains for goods and services in the domestic and global economy. The Committee’s work is intended to further the Administration’s export, economic, and job growth goals.
