Attorneys working in any field must be able to write with clarity and persuasiveness to maximize impact. Whether it’s briefing an Under Secretary, drafting a memo, or something as simple as writing an email, functional writing is vital to effectively communicating a message.
Based on feedback from across OGC, attorneys were interested in improving their legal writing and gathered for a workshop intensive in the Commerce Research Library. From Honors Attorneys who haven’t passed the bar to a Chief Counsel, participants had a long, but fun day putting these new strategies to the test. The session was focused on drafting, editing, clear-writing, and advanced persuasion, with plenty of hands-on exercises to help them develop a working toolbox of writing techniques they can use in their day-to-day work.
Growing your skills doesn’t stop once you pass the bar and OGC values a culture of continuous learning. Staff are encourage to attend in-person seminars, virtual CLEs or other trainings, conferences, moot court, and to take advantage of other opportunities that promote individual growth and foster strong teams.
