Protective Services

Protective Services are electronic screening equipment, people, and animals that protect facilities and personnel while responding to threats and incidents.

Protective Security Officers (PSOs)

PSOs are acquired through contracts with Federal Protective Services (FPS) at facilities leased or owned by the General Services Administration leased or delegated by Department of Homeland Security to certain U.S. Department of Commerce sites. PSOs staff armed security posts and perform functions that include control center operations. PSOs monitor surveillance cameras, respond to alarms, manage dispatch, conduct access point screening, exercise visitor control, authenticate identity cards, manage vehicle access, and use K-9s as needed.

K-9 Services

K-9 services are deployed to augment building security countermeasures in the detection of certain contraband, prohibited items, and explosives.
