Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)

Due to the societal transition of information sharing from paper exclusively, to one which increasingly relies on technology, the Department Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Program is administered by the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO); however, by its very nature, the CUI Program is an information security program. InfoSec personnel assist OCIO to ensure CUI is properly handled and safeguarded and investigating violations where there was commingling of CUI with classified national security information (NSI) or where the penalties necessitate referral to Personnel Security (PerSec).
