The U.S. Commerce Department today announced that Brad Carroll has joined the agency as Press Secretary. In this position, he will be the primary spokesperson for the department. Former Press Secretary Parita Shah has been promoted to Deputy Director of Public Affairs.
Brad
joins Commerce from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA), where he served as the agency's Press
Secretary. At FEMA, he helped to manage the development and execution of
media campaigns highlighting the importance of personal disaster preparedness
and the agency's ongoing work to prepare for and respond to disasters,
including the 2009 Samoan tsunami, the 2010 Tennessee floods, the 2011 Joplin and
Tuscaloosa tornadoes, Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee, and over 185 other
major Presidential Disaster Declarations.
Prior to joining FEMA, Brad served as the Press Secretary for U.S. Senator
Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), a member of the Democratic leadership and then-member
of the Senate Finance, Agriculture, Energy and Budget Committees. Brad
also served as Michigan Deputy Communications Director during the Obama
Presidential campaign, and handled press for the Interior Department's
Presidential Transition team.
